So Many Litigation Products: Which one is right for me?
A breakdown of LexisNexis Litigation software
The world around us is busting out with new options to automate our everyday tasks. Buy this product and your work load will be lessened and life will be uncluttered “AUTOMAGICALLY”. If only it were this easy. The problem becomes not whether you need technology in your business but in the choice of what technology to implement to get the best bang for your buck and time.
Let’s break this down. The first question is always identifying the most urgent need. When you have multiple wounds, it is always best to address the life threatening issues before the rest, needs before wants. As time progresses, data grows in size. The storage of the data is one of the most costly when we talk about 100’s of Gigabytes or even terabytes, so our first order of business is to try and sift through all of the data to see what we can omit from the rest of our process. The ability to identify groups of data, such as all documents that came from Amazon.com or all Windows system files, can help make all of this data more manageable and not so cost prohibitive. Depending on your goals with your discovery, these two groups of documents you know right away will have no bearing on your case. Why spend the time, money and storage space processing them? Our Early Data Analyzer(EDA) will help cull the data by groups and enable your reviewers to spend their time on data that is more likely to be relevant.
LAW Prediscovery allows the user to not only cull the data, although not as fast and as efficiently as EDA, but also to process the data to put the metadata into fields, OCR the text and tiff your documents if needed. Being an agnostic product, LAW allows the user to generate load files not only for the different platforms offered by LexisNexis but also for other document review platforms. Processing is also a costly step in electronic discovery review. Often times the data is sent out to a vendor to process and billing back to the client becomes tricky. When LAW is brought in house, it becomes a source of revenue and billable hours that can be billed to client. And due to the high cost of vendor processing, the software pays for itself after a few uses.
Once the data is in a form that is ready for review, we have several options depending on your needs and the size of the data. Choosing a review platform can be as simple or as complex as you would like. Each tool has attributes that best suit a different situation. If you find yourself with a case that has a large amount of data that you may or may not need to share with outside parties, Concordance Evolution may be the solution for you. For mid-size cases that require production with redactions, Concordance Classic may be the right choice. If analysis is needed of your data but not production, then CaseMap and TextMap will fulfill your needs.
There is no cut and dry mark of delineation between the products offered by LexisNexis but given their flexible nature, we can help you make the choice that fits your needs and your budget and provides the workflow that makes sense for your firm. When you are ready, let us help you find the right solution for your needs to make you more efficient with your time and money. We look forward to being your partner in litigation.
