Marketplace Fairness Act Clears Another Procedural Hurdle in U.S. Senate

The Marketplace Fairness Act of 2013 (S. 743) moved closer to a final vote in the U.S. Senate as a motion to proceed passed 75 to 22 on April 24.
The vote was the third taken on the measure since March, and all have passed with filibuster-proof margins. A test vote on an amendment to the Senate budget measure passed 75 to 24 on March 22, and a cloture motion was approved 74 to 20 on April 22.
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said on the Senate floor that those hoping to delay a final vote will not be successful.
"There is no chance they can prevail," he said. "We're going to finish this bill this week."
