Like many other professionals, attorneys’ lives are filled to the brim with anxiety and stress. The consequences of shrugging it off can be catastrophic – not only for them but for their family, staff, colleagues, and friends. Similarly, the ramifications of trauma aren’t discussed as frequently as those of stress, yet it can be secondary or vicarious. Whether from the cumulative effect of listening to a client or witness relay graphic stories and experiences, a personal loss, or even the grief associated with lost opportunities and unmet expectations due to the cancellation of long planned events, trauma can take a significant toll. Not properly dealing with these stressors can lead to negative coping mechanisms, such as abuse of alcohol and drugs.

The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (the “IRA”) is expected to significantly change the landscape of renewable energy project development, finance, and commercialization in the U.S.. Not only will existing industry players be incentivized to broaden their involvement, but newcomers may also be motivated to take advantage of new tax credit structures being implemented under the Act.

The legal profession continues to struggle with attracting and retaining diverse attorneys representative of the communities they serve. How does this challenge affect you and your practice? With today’s increasing demand for diversity in the legal profession by everyone, including clients, it is more important than ever for practicing attorneys to understand diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) issues and how they impact the practice of law as well as their own business. Indeed, the American Bar Association has taken a stance by implementing Model Rule 8.4(g) to prevent lawyers from engaging in discriminatory conduct.

When Roe v. Wade was overturned as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, state law restrictions on abortions came back into play. Health plans were left scrambling to determine whether or not to cover abortion-related medical services, including reimbursement of travel expenses incurred in order to obtain any medical services. Some plan sponsors made changes, while others adopted a “wait and see” approach. Regardless of whether changes were made, employers and plan sponsors are watching to see what others are doing, what new issues have arisen, and how best to design and implement any new benefits going forward. This webcast provides a high-level overview and gets you up to date on where we’re at post-Dobbs, including what we know now, what plan design ideas work (or don’t), and what we’re watching heading into 2023.

Most closely-held businesses are formed under the assumption that the owners will work in continuous harmony because their success, profits, and income are intertwined. Unfortunately, disputes are bound to arise, potentially disrupting business operations and revenue. The best way to handle these disputes is to make every effort to address the most common areas of disagreement before irreconcilable differences fracture the foundation of the company. As counsel, you need to know how to approach and assess these issues both at the inception of the organization and through its continued growth.

Increased interest rates, inflation, cash flow problems, and compressed returns on investment classes have negatively impacted the short- and long-term commercial real estate market across many sectors. Adaptive trends have caused many businesses to reevaluate lease renewals, loan workouts, sources of cash flow, and how they operate or reshape their businesses. These trends have led lenders, owners, investors, and developers to respond by rethinking the solutions and alternative remedies of bankruptcy and various creditors rights in light of the current conditions.
