Description

Social media offers users vibrant online communities and efficient and often fun ways to interact and share information. Social media also creates privacy, security and intellectual property risks for individuals and businesses. These risks come from outsiders, such as hackers’ social engineering schemes or cyber espionage, and insiders, whether purposefully or carelessly. Increasingly, hackers gather information via social media that gives them the keys to unlock your networks and access valuable business information. According to Cisco’s Annual Cyber Security Report, Facebook scams ranked third on their list of most common Web attack methods. With nearly 1.8 billion monthly active users worldwide, Cisco wrote, “it is logical territory for cybercriminals and other actors looking to dupe users” with fake offers, fake news content and fake surveys. Facebook “hijacking,” meanwhile, ranks number 10. Our speakers will present five case studies involving nefarious use of social media, explain how each was managed, and what steps were taken to prevent recurrence.
