This course focuses on the importance of accuracy and efficiency in the review and preparation of briefs and motions. In particular, it stresses an attorney’s duty of competence under the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct which has been expanded to include a duty to learn, use, and continually update one’s knowledge of all law practice technology applications that can increase accuracy and efficiency in all tasks germane to an attorney’s particular practice.
For attorney who are engaged in the drafting and review of legal memoranda, the revised Rule 1.1 Duty of Competence certainly includes an obligation to leverage technology to perform tasks like legal research, cite retrieval, cite-validation, quote-validation and creation of Tables of Authorities in the most accurate and efficient way possible. Thus, the course provides examples of currently available technology applications to assist with each of the aforementioned tasks.
