Sharjah24, 5 May 2026: The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), chaired by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, approved a decision regulating aquaculture farms to protect the marine environment, support the local economy, and promote sustainable growth.
The new regulation sets out detailed provisions governing the establishment and operation of aquaculture farms in the emirate. It defines farm types and classifications, specifies eligibility criteria for operators, and outlines conditions for licensing.
Operators are required to comply with obligations covering environmental protection, production quality, and safety standards. The framework also introduces administrative penalties for violations, enforcement mechanisms, and final provisions to ensure effective implementation.
The SEC emphasised that the regulation aims to achieve optimal use of natural resources, encourage the adoption of modern technologies, and foster innovation in aquaculture. It is also intended to strengthen the local economy by supporting sustainable production and safeguarding the marine environment.
