MISSION &
OBJECTIVES
"Capitalize on the Changes in the Legal Marketplace"
The fifth AMPLL Conference will include presentations,
structured breakout sessions, demonstrations, and ample opportunity
for networking with the faculty, council and other attendees.
Enrollment is limited to 30 participants to maximize the learning
and sharing of information.
Participants will learn how to:
- Develop proactive approaches to law firm economics
- Create and leverage strategic opportunities
- Promote librarian value and visibility

Westin Stonebriar Resort in Dallas, TX
2:00 PM on Friday, April 15, 2005 through
11:30 AM on Sunday, April 17, 2005
Costs:
There is no registration fee to attend the AMPLL Conference. LexisNexis will cover all conference materials, meals, lodging, and transportation to and from the airport in Dallas. Attendees are responsible for airfare to and from the conference and any personal incidental charges. One travel scholarship is available.
Selection Criteria:
The AMPLL conference is open to all law librarians working in a management position, such as library manager, director, or department head in a private law firm or corporate legal department. In making their decisions, the Selection Committee will strive for diversity in such areas as geographical distribution, firm size, and managerial responsibilities. You can apply this year, even if you previously applied to attend an AMPLL Conference in the past, but were not accepted.

Linda Burrs
Linda is the Principal Consultant of the Step Up to Success!
consulting firm which focuses on leadership and organizational
strategies for leaders, teams and individuals. She has been in the
corporate and professional training arena for more than 20 years. Her
experience includes working with law firms, technology organizations,
teachers, business professionals and leadership groups from all walks
of life.
Linda completed a year-long assignment as the Program Director for the
Emerging Leader Program at the University of Dayton's Center for
Leadership and Executive Development where she designed curriculum and
developed programs for the Emerging Leader program. She continues to
remain an active presenter for this program. Linda is a Past President
of the Greater Dayton Area Chapter of the Association of Psychological
Type in Dayton, OH and has recently accepted the position of Chair for
the Great Lakes Region of the Association for Psychological Type. She
has literally coached thousands on the MBTI(r) personality indicator.
Linda is a Lead Faculty member at the University of Phoenix Cincinnati
and Dayton campuses where she facilitates courses in Organization
Behavior, Management Leadership, and Human Resources Management. She
is frequently a guest lecturer at Antioch University's McGregor School
of Business and Miami University where she lectures on personality
types and valuing differences in learning and communication styles to
students in the Masters and undergraduate programs.
Linda has a Masters in Organization Management and is a doctoral
candidate for her Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership
and expects to complete her doctoral research project in
November/December 2004. Her experience, enthusiasm and high energy
provide the foundation for her confident and capable delivery. She
designs and delivers targeted and successful coaching interventions
and programs designed to lead to improved leadership and
organizational performance. When you attend a Step Up To Success!
program, you walk away with increased communication skills, better
self-management skills, enhanced interpersonal skills and a clearer
understanding of your individual strengths and how they contribute to
your success both organizationally, professionally, and personally.
Marlowe Crawford
Marlowe Crawford has been Manager of Research Services at the
firm of Howard Rice Nemerovski Canady Falk & Rabkin, PC in San
Francisco since 1994. From 1991 to 1994, she was Assistant
Librarian. Prior to joining Howard Rice, she worked for
Information Access Company on special projects. She has
developed training programs for attorneys, legal assistants, and
secretaries.
Marlowe is active in the Northern California Association of Law
Libraries. She served as treasurer from 1996 through 1998 and
from 2001 through 2002. She has also served on a variety of
committees. Marlowe was the co-chair of the AALL Private Law
Libraries SIS education committee in 2000.
Marlowe received her MLS from San Jose State University and her BA
in English from San Francisco State University.
Kit Hartnett
Kit is the Director of Library Services at the New York law firm of Proskauer Rose LLP, a firm of more than 600 attorneys in six offices. She has been the Director since 1998. Prior to that, she was Director of the Library at Blank Rome Comisky and McCauley in Philadelphia and Reference Librarian at Post and Schell.
Kit's professional affiliations include memberships in the Special Libraries Association (SLA) and the Law Library Association of Greater New York (LLAGNY). She has co-chaired
LLAGNY's Membership Committee and served on the Board of Directors. She is a past president of Greater Philadelphia Law Libraries Association (GPLLA). Kit has presented programs at
LLAGNY, Legal Tech, Association of Legal Administrators - New York
Chapter, SLA and Cornell University. In addition, she is a
past presenter and member of the planning council for the AMPLL
conference in 2003.
Kit received her B.S from St. Joseph's College, her Masters of Information Studies from Drexel, and her J.D. from Memphis State University.
Joan Jarosek
Joan Jarosek has held the position of Manager of Library Services for
the Dallas office of Jones Day for more than 16 years. Jones Day
has over 2,000 lawyers in 30 offices worldwide. Joan has more
than 25 years experience in law libraries. She is a former
Assistant Librarian at Columbia University Law Library and Assistant
Librarian at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York.
Joan is a member of the American Association of Law Libraries,
Special Libraries Association and the Dallas Association of Law
Libraries. She has served on many committees of the professional
associations and is a past president of the Dallas Association of Law
Libraries and former treasurer of the Private Law Librarians Special
Interest Section of AALL.
Joan holds a B.S. from the University of Houston and a M.S. in
Library Services from Columbia University.
Monice Kaczorowski
Monice M. Kaczorowski has been Director of Libraries for Neal Gerber &
Eisenberg LLP since June 2003. Prior to her current position,
she was Director of Libraries for Ross & Hardies from 1989 to2003.
Monice has developed legal research training programs for summer
associates and advanced subject-specific training for fall associates
and lateral hires. She works closely with the Marketing
Department, and attends Practice Group meetings to develop needs
assessments and to promote business development within the firm.
She has created a Business Intelligence Unit within the library that
supplies Competitive Intelligence Reports for the firms practice
development efforts.
Monice has spoken before the Chicago Legal Administrators on the
topic of "Cost Effective Libraries" and authored "The Library - Making
it Your Business" in Trends in Law Library Management (1997)
and "Running Your Library Like a Business" in the AALL Management
Brief (1996). She was a member of the 2002 Teaching Research
in Private Law Libraries (TRIPLL) Advisory Committee. Monice is a
member of AALL, SLA and CALL. She received her B.A. from St.
Mary's College, Notre Dame, IN and earned her M.L.S. from Dominican
University, River Forrest, IL (formerly Rosary College).
Leigh A. Sempeles, Esq.
Leigh A. Sempeles is the Vice President of Large Law Market Planning
for the AM LAW 100 firms and is based at the LexisNexis headquarters
in Dayton, OH.
Leigh has worked 20 years at LexisNexis and has served in
organizational positions within product development, marketing and
strategy. She has been a major contributor in developing the
strong case law collection and editorial processes, new citation
offerings, analytical content additions and other key product
development initiatives for LexisNexis. As a Publisher, she
created and led online content strategies that include licensing and
company joint ventures/acquisitions targeted at legal practice areas
including tax, corporate/securities, M&A, bankruptcy, environment,
labor/employment, intellectual property, insurance, health, trade,
international, energy, telecommunications and other legal disciplines.
Leight holds a Juris Doctorate, a Masters of Arts in Management and
an undergraduate degree in History. She is licensed to practice
law in the state of Ohio and is a member of the Ohio State Bar
Association, American Bar Association and the Information Industry
Association. Prior to joining LexisNexis, she was a staff
