Librarian Relations Consultant Research Tip: Check your Lexis Advance settings and choose options that work best for you.

Lexis Advance is a powerful tool that can be customized to better reflect your workflow. Take a look at the Settings (found under the More pull-down menu), to make sure they are optimized for you.

Settings will open in the General tab. My recommendations are to consider the following:

You can choose 10, 25 or 50. The default is 10 because this allows the pages to load faster. So if you care about speed, keep it at 10. But if you prefer to have more results and you don’t mind scrolling, my recommendation is 50 (my preference).

Scroll down the page and consider this option:

Choose what works best for you: an alphabetical listing within filters or a listing of highest to lowest number of results.

Continue scrolling down to this option for how results are sorted:

The default is for all content to be sorted by relevance. However, you can change your sorting options. I prefer News results to be sorted in reverse chronological order, but it’s up to you! Note, you can specify your preference for each content type. Three choices surface, but you can add more by clicking the Add content types link. Set your preferences and save time when viewing results.

Next, go to the Lexis Advance Research tab in the upper left corner, and look at this option:

The default is to open results in Cases, but you can change it to a different content type that you may use more often.

These are the four settings I encourage you to review to make sure they reflect your workflow. If you make any changes, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page and hit Save Changes to Settings & Close for your preferences to stick.

And look at the other settings to ensure they work for you. Lexis Advance is even more powerful when customized to your preferences!
