Can Lawyers Be Replaced by AI?

Good news for the future of lawyers! Artificial intelligence is not going to replace a human attorney—at least not anytime soon. While the future of law may eventually include robotics and other AI-based innovations, the truth is, the technology isn’t there yet.

That doesn’t mean AI isn’t making headlines in the legal news though. The emergence of legal analytics, machine learning and other big data breakthroughs has given savvy attorneys some powerful capabilities.

For instance, artificial intelligence is helping attorneys dig deeper into their legal research by “understanding” their search path. It can then make recommendations to help lawyers pinpoint relevant documents and reveal previously hidden case connections.

Perhaps more importantly, big data and AI related technologies are able to do this all quickly—potentially shaving hours of time off of more traditional legal research methods.

So, even though shiny metallic robolawyers aren’t currently beeping their way into the courtrooms, lawyers can still leverage powerful AI-based technologies to enhance their legal work.
