How will AI Affect the Practice of Law?

Anyone who’s interested in law technology will tell you that artificial intelligence in the legal profession has already made a huge impact in the way lawyers approach their work. Stories are common in legal news regarding how attorneys are able to leverage never-before-seen insight to craft their legal strategies.

Perhaps the most significant affect AI has had on the practice of law is in the legal research realm. AI-fueled research has the potential to shave hours (if not days) off of traditional legal research. But AI’s benefits go far beyond general time savings. It has the capability to uncover things that may have been overlooked in the past, bridging connections that a human might not have been able to link without the aid of artificial intelligence.

Big data, machine learning and AI has also been used to reveal insights, including how much a particular verdict or settlement award could be or what language a judge has used in previous decisions. You’re even able to find a court with precedent most favorable to your client’s issue.
