What is Artificial Intelligence in Law?

Artificial intelligence has emerged as a valuable technology in many industries and the legal sector is no exception. Artificial intelligence in the legal profession manifests itself in several different ways—from helping attorneys research deeper and faster, to providing lawyers with previously unheard-of insight into their legal strategies.

For starters, by analyzing massive data sets, AI can “understand” what a researcher is looking for and then make suggestions to help them along their search path. Not only does this accelerate the legal research process, it also can reveal valuable details that traditional research may have overlooked. You read more about AI and legal research here.

Better still, a computer equipped with machine learning capabilities can scour millions of lines of text to pinpoint and extract key phrases. This can be immensely valuable for finding key testimony or precise judicial language. Here’s a good example of how language analytics can be used in a courtroom.

The reality is that AI has helped in a lot of ways, particularly in the growth of big data technologies. Read about the role of artificial intelligence in the legal profession here.
